Truck Driver

Employment Responsibilities

• Driving trucks to transport equipment, machinery, tools, wood chips, branches, logs and other materials to and from worksites.
• Planning delivery routes and selecting appropriate routes based on road conditions, traffic, vehicle restrictions and delivery schedules.
• Conducting pre-start inspections of trucks and checking tyres, brakes, lights, fluid levels and other vehicle components to ensure the vehicle is safe and roadworthy.
• Loading, securing and unloading equipment, materials, tree waste and other cargo in accordance with load restraint requirements and workplace safety procedures.
• Operating or assisting with the operation of truck-mounted equipment, tipping mechanisms and other relevant loading or unloading systems, where applicable.
• Collecting and transporting green waste, branches, logs and wood chips from tree maintenance and removal sites to designated disposal, recycling or processing facilities.
• Coordinating with arborists, ground crew members and supervisors to ensure the timely and safe movement of equipment and materials between worksites.
• Completing delivery records, vehicle logs, run sheets and other required documentation.
• Reporting vehicle defects, mechanical issues, damage, delays and any incidents to the appropriate supervisor.
• Carrying out basic vehicle cleaning and routine maintenance, and arranging servicing or repairs when required.
• Complying with road transport legislation, fatigue management requirements, load restraint standards, workplace health and safety procedures and company policies.
• Assisting with general ground duties at tree care worksites when required, including maintaining a clean and safe work area.

Skills, experience and qualifications

• Demonstrated experience driving trucks, preferably in transport, construction, landscaping, arboriculture or a related industry.
• Knowledge of road safety, vehicle operation, load restraint and safe loading and unloading procedures.
• The ability to conduct vehicle inspections and identify basic mechanical issues.
• Good time management skills and the ability to follow delivery schedules and instructions.
• A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with supervisors and ground crews.
• A reliable, practical and positive approach to work, with the ability to work outdoors and undertake physically demanding tasks when required.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Licences

Current HR or HC heavy vehicle licence (or equivalent)
